What is Netball?
Netball is a sport played between two teams of seven players. The sport shares many similarities with basketball, having been derived from early versions of women's basketball. It developed as a distinct sport in the 1890s in England, from where it spread to other countries. Netball is popular in Commonwealth nations and is predominantly played by women. History of Crusaders Sports Club
Established in 1990 by a group of Netball enthusiasts, the Crusaders Sports Club is one of the oldest, largest, and most active Sports Clubs in the New York Region. Based in Queens, New York, the club was originally formed by 4 members -- Angella Depass, Bertram Charlton, Cislyn Beckford, and Marcia Ricketts -- who accepted the responsibility and devoted themselves to the success of the club. They gathered 5 additional members and rallied to hold their very first meeting on Sunday, September 10th, 1990. In attendance were:

The founding members had a vision to represent and foster the growth and development of Netball in the United States. The name ‘Crusaders’ was chosen because it signified the movement to bring together players who were excited and optimistic about the game of Netball, by providing them with a home to develop their abilities in playing, coaching, umpiring, and leading. Our motto “Unity is Strength” signifies the very foundation on which the club was built, and is used quite often to have members re-group and focus. The original colors of the club were Turquoise and White; Orange was later added to lift the color scheme.
With limited funds and faced with an uncertain future, they teamed together and used their spirit and enthusiasm to develop not only sporting, but also cultural and social activities. Our annual events have since grown to include: a One-Day Netball Tournament, a Boat Ride, a Family Picnic, a Bus Ride, and a Fashion & Variety Show.
Over the years, the team members have traveled to Atlanta, Bermuda, Connecticut, Jamaica, Miami, and New Zealand. In 1999, three members of the club -- Cislyn Beckford, Cynthia Lane, and Sandra Williams -- had the honor of representing the USA at the International Federation Netball Association World Tournament in New Zealand. In 2003, we were proudly represented by Roniesh Davis, as she traveled with the USA team to play in the World Netball Tournament in Jamaica.
Founding Member and past President, Angella Depass, has also made significant contributions over the years to the sport of Netball and has received awards from ANA and other Netball Associations.
Since its inception, Crusaders has grown to a point where we were able to have as many as three teams. Currently our Club has approximately forty-five members, allowing us to enter two netball teams for each competition. We have also been privileged to have the expertise of a qualified netball coach with over fifteen years of experience, Kunkel Blaine, who has been instrumental in leading us to numerous victories. Boasting a colorful history filled with many triumphs and achievements, Crusaders has tasted victory on many occasions. We are currently the reigning National Champions, as well as the CANA Senior League Champions. To add to our list of achievements, we are proud to be the first Netball Team to expand to another Chapter -- in 2007, Crusaders ATL was created.
The main focus of our club is building friendships for life, and since most members have been around for many years, the club members are like a family. Known for our discipline and professionalism, our members conduct themselves to a standard to which others strive to parallel. The club’s success has been made possible by the support, courage and determination of its members, their families, and friends.

History of Crusaders ATL Sports Club, Inc.
This satellite club of Crusaders is based in the Atlanta, Georgia area and was established in June, 2007 by Opal Hill, Angela Dougall and Doreen Martin, members of Crusaders that relocated to Atlanta.
Crusaders ATL is a Netball and Social Club and its motto is “UNITY IS STRENGTH.” This new club has now grown to include other new members in Atlanta that have joined since its inception.
CRUSADER ATL is a member of Northeast Atlanta Area Netball Association and USANA, and competes in the GNA Netball League and local one day tournaments. We are looking for individuals interested in becoming members of a dynamic progressive organization. With positive attitudes, team player spirit, determination, reliability and also be active in all club events.
